652 Technical Theatre II

1 Semester, ½ Credit

Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors

Prerequisite:  648 Technical Theater I

This class will concentrate on the technical aspects of play production.  Students will gain hands-on experience in the fields of lighting and lighting design, set design and construction, sound operation and sound design, makeup, costuming, props construction, directing, stage management, and front of house responsibilities.  Working on shows in production is an integral part of this course.  Note:  Because of the variety of concepts learned, this class may be taken more than once.


By the completion of this course, students will be able to…

  1. Design and implement straight character, old age, animal, and special effects makeup.
  2. Design, implement, and run a basic light plot.
  3. Design, implement, and run a sound plot which includes wireless and handheld microphones, sound effects, and music.
  4. Design, build, and paint set pieces.
  5. Design basic costume pieces.
  6. Design and implement front of house affairs.
  7. Participate in technical aspects of a live production.
  8. Assemble and maintain a portfolio of their technical accomplishments.
