900 Teacher Aide

1 semester, ½ credit

Open to seniors

Prerequisite: 3.0 GPA and no major disciplinary history

This course is an option for those students seeking experience working in an educational setting. Students will be working with teachers and/or other staff members performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to: clerical work, lab preparation, and general classroom support.

Students may also be working with other students under teacher’s supervision for tutoring or staffing resource centers. Students must demonstrate mature, responsible behavior. This course is graded on a pass/fail basis and may be taken for one semester only. Students must complete an application to be considered and will be selected on the based on school need. This class has a limited enrollment.


By the completion of this course, students will be able to…

  1. Operate high tech copy machines.
  2. Use of a multi-line phone system.
  3. Use of the school's internet system and web pages to perform office functions.
  4. Properly greet visitors to our school.
  5. Properly greet phone callers and direct their calls.
  6. Sort and file a variety of papers and online documents.
  7. Apply real world job skills to problem solving tasks.


By the completion of this course, students will know…

  2. The importance of various administrative functions to an institution's operations
  3. The need for professionalism in an office setting
  4. How to understand questions and find answers in an efficient way

This course does not count toward the Practical Arts graduation requirement.
