The following need-based scholarships and grants are financial contributions to the tuition of students who also meet various merit-based criteria. The funding for some of these scholarships and grants are provided by external sources and, as such, selection of these recipients are sometimes made by the funding organization.
To apply for any of these Need-Based Scholarships, the family must submit an application online through FACTS Grant and Aid.
James Aholt ’75 Memorial Memorial Scholarship – $1000 scholarship awarded one each to a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior with financial need who maintains at least a 2.0 GPA, exhibits good moral character and is involved in school or community activities. The awardee must volunteer annually for the James Aholt Memorial Golf Tournament. This scholarship is renewable.
Dorothy (’32) and Hayward Boehmer and Bernice (’38) VanVactor Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to any graduate of St. Francis Borgia Grade School who exhibits good moral character. The amount of this scholarship is dependent on funding availability.
Rick and Annie Boedeker Scholarship – This scholarship is available to any student with the recommendation of the administration. The student must exhibit a good attitude and effort and be involved in school activities. The number and amounts of this award is dependent on funding availability.
Gladys Fields Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 scholarship awarded at the recommendation of administrators to a student with financial need who is involved in school activities. Preference is given to a child of a single parent.
Rose and Clarence Hanneken Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a worthy freshman or sophomore student on the basis of financial need. Preference is given to students from a large family. This scholarship is renewable for one additional year.
Ken (’44) and Les Holtmeyer Memorial Scholarships – Scholarships awarded in varying amounts to students with financial need.
Joe Kaiser Memorial Scholarship – $500 scholarship awarded to a student who demonstrates a love of Borgia and who is involved in student government or Student Council. Recipient must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Paul Kuenzel Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 scholarships awarded to five students involved in school activities with the recommendation of the administrators. Student should be the child of a single parent.
Judge Joseph M. Ladd Scholarship – Scholarship awarded to a student who is an American citizen and a resident of Franklin County. Recipient must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
Legacy Scholarship – Scholarships awarded to students who exhibit good school citizenship with the recommendation of the administrators. Amounts awarded are dependent on funding availability.
Coach Jim McDermott Memorial Scholarship – Five $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students with the recommendation of the administrators to students who are involved in school activities. The recipient should have good moral character and a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
Coach Jim McDermott Endowed Scholarship – $500 scholarship is awarded to student with the recommendation of the administrators to a student who is involved in school activities. The recipient should have good moral character and a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
Jacqueline Miller-Post Scholarship – Awarded to a student who is a good Catholic with financial need. Recipient is someone who exhibits strong faith values. Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Megan Piontek Memorial Scholarship – $500 scholarship awarded to a senior taking college credit psychology. The student must exhibit a love of life and good moral character, strive to make a difference in the lives of others, and be accepting of others without judgment. The recipient must have a 2.7 GPA or higher.
Margaret C. Politte Scholarship – Awarded to a student in the amount of $500. Student must have a 3.0 GPA.
Ratcliff Family Scholarship – Awarded to student with a diagnosed learning disability. The student must exhibit good school citizenship and maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
SFBRHS Student Council Scholarship – Three $250 Scholarship awarded to a deserving sophomore based upon financial need and leadership shown within the school community. It is renewable for junior and senior year.
Helen (’28) and Alphonse (’27) Straatmann Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to two students with financial need. Students must be Catholic and have acceptable academic performance. Each recipient must have a Mass said for the repose of the souls of Helen and Alphonse Straatmann at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, and place a wreath on their graves. The amount awarded varies depending on funding availability.
Elmer (’40) and Julia Unnerstall Memorial Scholarship – $500 scholarship awarded to student from a large Catholic family or a family with three children in Catholic schools. Recipient must be graduate of St. Francis Borgia Grade School, Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School or St. Gertrude’s Grade School. This scholarship is renewable.
