311 German I

2 semesters, 1 credit

Open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Prerequisite: Recommendation of guidance counselor based on Achievement Test

German I provides a basic introduction to the language, culture, and customs of German-speaking people.  Emphasis is placed on oral, listening, and written communication of common, everyday life experiences.  Students who do not maintain a “C” average at the end of second semester of German I may not take the next level course without teacher approval.

Skills

By the completion of this course, students will be able to…

  1. Conjugate regular and some irregular present tense verbs.
  2. Translate vocabulary. 
  3. Apply vocabulary to oral, written, and listening activities.
  4. Recognize the cultural activities of cities, states and sites of significant interest in Germany.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the German influence or lack of German influence in area communities.

 

Knowledge

By the completion of this course, students will know…

  1. German vocabulary, while writing, reading, listening, and speaking M
  2. Basic German grammar
