204 English Skills II

2 semesters, 1 credit

Open to sophomores.

Prerequisite: Based on teacher/guidance counselor recommendation and test scores.

Students will work with an English instructor to supplement their work in English II. Assignments and independent reading that may be assigned to English II students as homework may be completed in this class with instructor support. A portion of this class will be dedicated to giving students time to work on non-English class assignments that may require reading and/or writing assistance. In addition, students will apply organizational skills, time management techniques, test taking strategies, memorization techniques, reading comprehension skills, and other skills to improve academic success.


By the completion of this course, students will be able to…

  1. Identify iPad applications that will help them be successful on standardized tests. 
  2. Self-advocate inside and outside of the school setting.
  3. Identify organizational skills/tools to aid in organization. 
  4. Identify applications that will promote success in core classes. 
  5. Identify Study Skills to achieve success on core tests. 
  6. Budget time, plan a weekly schedule, and set up meetings as needed in order to promote self-advocacy.

  1. Reading comprehension strategies 
  2. Writing strategies 
  3. Standardized test preparation strategies
