235 Creative Writing

1 semester, ½ credit

Open to juniors and seniors

Through numerous writing exercises, the student will work to develop creative methods for self-expression. Students will create works of creative fiction, such as poems, short stories, and plays, as well as nonfiction articles and memoirs. This work will be presented in class, as well as submitted to publications and contests.

Skills

By the completion of this course, students will be able to…

  1. Produce works of creative fiction, such as poems, shorts stories, and plays.
  2. Produce nonfiction creative works and memoirs.
  3. Present, discuss, critique, and edit their own and others’ creative work.
  4. Submit selected items for publication and contest work.
  5. Read, analyze, and discuss various genres of literature.
  6. Employ public speaking skills.
