617 Chamber Choir

2 semesters, 1 credit

Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Prerequisite: 616 Mixed Chorus and/or audition.

This performance group encompasses more advanced choral singing of varied styles. Students participate in the school Christmas and Spring Concerts as well as other performances. Students in this course have the opportunity to audition for the East Central All-District Choir and participate in solos and ensembles at District Festival. Attendance is required at all performances. 

Participation in Mixed Chorus and/or an audition must take place before a student can enroll in Chamber Chorus.  Students will work to further their musical skills and understanding of choral music.



By completion of this course, students will be able to...

  1. Demonstrate proper vocal technique
  2. Identify all the names of the notes and know them by sight
  3. Identify rhythmic values of the notes and recognize them
  4. Perform rhythms using the notes and rests
  5. Sight read given the starting pitch
  6. Apply solfege syllables and their corresponding hand signs
  7. Identify intervals and how they are used in sight-reading
  8. Perform music from different time periods
  9. Students may be asked to perform in small a cappella groups



By completion of this course, students will know..

  1. Choral music from varying time periods
  2. Proper singing technique
  3. Basic concepts of music theory in order to become well-rounded musicians
  4. Certain aspects of choral history, including its role in history and how it is and has been used in day-to-day life, in the church, and in the secular world
  5. Sight-reading techniques, how to recognize what it entails, and how to successfully do it
