602 Band Color Guard

1 semester, ½ credit

Open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Prerequisite: Audition in spring

Band color guard is an alternative course for non-band members who enjoy marching and dancing.  Color guard marches with band during the first quarter and then works on other projects the second quarter, including Mass presentations, special parades, and Christmas concert participation.  Modern dance, creativity, and sense of rhythm are helpful.  This course meets during school hours as well as after. 

Co-requisite:  Students in this course are required also to enroll in 700H PE/Health with Marching Band or Band Color Guard in order to receive ¼ credit in PE.

Note: Students successfully completing four years of 602 Band Color Guard and 700H PE/Health will have earned 2.0 Fine Arts credits, as well as the 1.0 PE/Health credit required for graduation. 



By the completion of this course, student will be able to...

  1. Perform basic body/movement skills.
  2. Perform basic equipment skills.
  3. Demonstrate how to keep time with different tempos.
  4. Demonstrate how to maneuver equipment and body to tempo.
  5. Perform various dance styles.
  6. Demonstrate proper marching techniques.



By the completion of this course, students will know...

  1. How to connect groups of equipment together to make one cohesive performance
  2. How to combine multiple basic skills to form sequences
  3. Different marching band terminology
  4. How to use different guard equipment
