IPAD INITIATIVE INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS iPad financing available through Bank of Washington

The lever, the wheel, the gasoline engine: tools. The computer, the internet, the iPad: tools. Humankind has shaped tools from the earliest days - and our tools have in turn shaped how we work, and how we think. Students today did not have to adapt to computers or the internet - for them, it's just the way things are, and the way they think. Students take to iPads like ducks to water - easily and naturally! They are "digital natives" in today's electronic environment.

As for those of us who have had to "immigrate" into the electronic environment, there's hope! The iPad is easy to use, tough to damage, hard to misplace (with its GPS app) -- and it's an education game-changer! This is a cost-effective tool that makes what learners do now in the classroom easier, but goes far beyond into educational possibilities still being explored, and likely some not yet even imagined! It opens whole new depths and vistas of learning. It affects how we learn, and how we learn from each other. It is far more than a cost-effective replacement of hard-copy textbooks. Classroom walls are extended in space and in time, for both past and real-time events. This is without a doubt the future of effective education. It is at once interesting, exhilarating, and challenging!

The launch of the iPad initiative at Borgia is a reflection of months of study and deliberation by a committee of parents, faculty members and administrators. To find out more about iPads and plans for use at Borgia, attend one of the informational meetings scheduled for parents. The first is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 PM in the SFBRHS cafeteria. The session will be repeated on Wednesday, February 22, same time, same place. Bring along your "digital native" student!
